School Innovation and Improvement Plan At-a-Glance

English Language Arts
Outcome:
- Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts by the end of grade 3.
Goals:
- By June 2025, the percentage of multilingual learners (G1 - G3) who demonstrate progress in overall language acquisition will increase from 56% to 61% as measured by WIDA ACCESS for ELLs, demonstrating a gain of 5% for SY 2024-2025 over SY 2023-2024.
- The percentage of students in grades PK-3 meeting or exceeding the VALLSS screener benchmarks will increase from fall 2024 to spring 2025.
Strategy 1
- Improve daily, systematic, explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, and morphology by using the new core curriculum.
Strategy 2
- Use embedded formative assessments in the new core curriculum to guide tier 1 and tier 2 instructional decisions.
Strategy 3
- Increase teacher content knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with science-based reading research to improve implementation of new core curriculum.
Mathematics
Outcome:
- Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics in alignment with FCPS goal for Algebra by grade 8.
Goal:
- By June 2025, the percentage of multilingual learners who pass the Grades 3-6 Math SOL will increase from 43% to 48%, demonstrating a gain of 5% for SY 2024-2025 over SY 2023-2024.
Strategy 1
- Increase teacher's implementation of strategies and conversation structures that increase academic talk between students related to Shift 4: from show and tell to share and compare.
Strategy 2
- Increase formal collaboration between classroom teachers and ESOL teachers to develop the language of mathematics through the use of embedded strategies during whole group and small group instruction.
Strategy 3
- Increase teachers' content knowledge and implementation of the 2023 FCPS Mathematics Program of Studies.
Wellness
Outcome:
- Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.
Goal:
- By May 2025, the Bren Mar Park chronic absenteeism rate will decrease from 13.9% (63 students) to no more than 10% as indicated in the FCPS attendance dashboard.
Strategy 1
- MTSS Schoolwide and Site Intervention teams analyze attendance along with behavior and wellness data bi-monthly to identify students in need of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
Strategy 2
- Schools will share multilingual attendance materials with families throughout the year to educate families regarding the importance of attendance for school success.
Strategy 3
- Teachers will use a variety of culturally-responsive practices and communication methods to provide supportive outreach to students and families when student attendance concerns arise.
