Full-time Advanced Academics

Full-time advanced academic services are in their second year of rollout, and includes 3rd and 4th grade.  5th grade will be added during the 2025-2026 school year.  We also offer part-time advanced academic services. All students at Bren Mar Park are challenged to think critically!

Student Leadership Opportunities

We have many programs giving student leadership opportunities, such as student ambassadors and the Student Equity Leadership Group. Student ambassadors welcome new students, give them tours, and build friendships. The Student Equity Leadership Group meets monthly to share perspective and provide feedback on how to improve the school for students of all backgrounds.

Students Come Back as Teachers

Kindergarten teacher Katie Ambrosio was a student at BMP and had Stacy Birkenstock as her own kindergarten teacher.  Now, they teach together on the same team! We also have several former students who come back to substitute teach.

Monthly Family Market

In collaboration with the Capital Area Food Bank, we host a monthly Family market for our local community; most volunteers are made up of BMP staff. Families in the community are invited to shop for various food items and clothing. We regularly serve more than 150 families and recently the collaboration expanded to include Trader Joe’s.

Celebrating Cultural Stories

A high family engagement event is the annual Celebrating Cultural Stories which welcomes parents/guardians to share a children's story in their native language.  Students learn more about the language, such as its written form and cultural aspects.  This event includes a catered cultural dinner.

Families Feel Supported

In the June 2024 Family Engagement Survey, 91% of families reported that they agreed or strongly agreed that BMP provides quality communication.  92% stated that they feel comfortable approaching teachers and other staff with questions, problems, or concerns, and 96% stated that information provided by the school was easy to understand.

A Brand New School is Coming!

Renovations begin in December 2024! The modern design will feature lots of natural light and a library at the front of the school. We are adding a new wing, second level, and three courtyards. There will also be a new playground and a preschool playground.  We will be able to accommodate 800 students.

Focus on Multilingual Learners

English as a Second Language teachers co-teach with classroom teachers in our math blocks to support our multilingual learners.  Last year, the percentage of multilingual learners that achieved 40% percentile or higher on the math iReady assessment increased from 11% to 24%.

Purple Star Designation

BMP is a Purple Star School, which is a designation for schools that have been recognized for their commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.  We provide professional development to staff specifically around supporting military-connected children.

top reasons 10Family Events Galore!

We have many family events, both in the evenings and during the school day.  Some favorites include our beloved Relay Races, International Night, Something Sweet with Someone You Love, and Field Day, which is also a 5th grade leadership opportunity.
